Queer-lombola: countercolonial re-existence and dissident sexualities in Quilombo Mimbó (Amarante/PI)

Abstract

This article proposes and develops the concept of queer-lombola as an analytical and political category for understanding dissident sexualities in quilombola territories, taking Quilombo Mimbó, located in Amarante, Piauí, as a situated analytical case. The research is qualitative, theoretical-conceptual, bibliographic, documentary, and exploratory, articulating decolonial studies, quilombola studies, debates on sexuality, and academic productions on Mimbó. The research does not present itself as ethnographic research or as an investigation involving direct collection of personal data, interviews, or individual identification of persons. It argues that queer-lombolality allows us to understand modes of re-existence that challenge the colonial heteronormative regime, especially when articulated with territoriality, ancestry, and Afro-Brazilian cosmologies. In dialogue with Lugones, Segato, Quijano, Arruti, Moreira, and Tavares, the article maintains that the concept contributes to displacing urban-centered models for interpreting sexual dissidence and affirming plural alternatives of life from Afrodiasporic epistemologies.
