WILLIAM BLAKE E OS PEREGRINOS DOS CANTERBURY TALES DE CHAUCER: RELEITURAS VISUAIS E TEXTUAIS
Résumé
O objetivo deste artigo é estudar o texto e a pintura/ilustração de William Blake dedicada às personagens de Chaucer no cenário artístico do início do século 19. Para tanto, discutiremos primeiramente a produção da obra de Blake em contraste com a pintura de Thomas Stothard. A seguir, centraremos a análise nos estudos críticos que a obra recebeu nas últimas décadas, interpretações que dizem respeito às referências míticas, literárias e históricas presentes na pintura. Por fim, proporemos uma interpretação da pintura/ilustração de Blake em comparação com os comentários sobre a tela no Descriptive Catalogue de 1809. Como apêndice a esse artigo, incluímos a tradução do texto de Blake e também uma identificação das trinta personagens da sua tela, Sir Geoffrey Chaucer e os Vinte e Nove Peregrinos a Caminho de Canturbery.
