Power, disputes, and geopolitics in the pharmaceutical sector

The pharmaceutical sector reached global revenues of USD 1.6 trillion in 2023, highlighting its vast economic power and strategic influence on contemporary economics and politics. This article, based on extensive data collection, systematization, and analysis, examines the dynamics of this power and influence. It discusses the economic (and political) value of companies in the sector, the disputes among corporations and nations involved, the geopolitical role played during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the sector's ability to influence domestic policies through intense interaction and financing of legislators, as well as regulatory and oversight agencies.
