Abstract

Taking into consideration the importance of extra curriculum activities for the academic community, and for members of the external community in which the university is inserted, this work presents a brief historical account of the activity called SolinEnglish and Other Languages, developed at the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia, UESB, for a period of eleven years. The report focuses on characteristics that vary from the historical aspects to elements that relate to the themes addressed in the activities, the participants, the involvement of faculty, students and staff members, the various impacts caused by the action and academic productions generated as a result of this process to the field of Applied Linguistics, and Critical Applied Linguistics, more specifically in its aspect with emphasis on language teaching and learning.

Karine Patrícia Dias Cardoso, UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DO SUDOESTE DA BAHIA - UESB

Karine Patrícia Dias Cardoso holds an undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages/English and also a Specialist degree in English as a Foreign Languages from the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia, UESB, and is a staff member at the Language Laboratory at UESB, Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil.

Sueid Fauaze Moreira, UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DO SUDOESTE DA BAHIA - UESB

Sueid Fauaze holds an undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages/English from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil; a specialist degree in English from the Potifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, Brazil; a mesters degree in Adult Education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, USA; and a Doctor degree in Higher Education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, USA, with emphasis in the teaching/learning of foreign languages at the College Level. She is currently a Tenure Professor at the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia - UESB, in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil, working with the English language, translation, and creative writing classes.
