Violência obstétrica e práticas assistenciais: vivências e representações sociais de mulheres

This study aims to apprehend the social representations of women about obstetric violence. This is an exploratory study of a qualitative nature based on the theoretical-methodological contribution of the Theory of Social Representations. The study participants were 30 women. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews provided by virtual platforms. For data processing, the IRaMuTeQ software was used. The textual corpus was submitted to similarity analysis and word cloud processing. From the detailed study of the similitude tree and the word cloud, it was possible to organize the results based on three themes and a subtheme, namely: 1 –Parturition process: experiences and care; 1.1 –Obstetric violence as a violation of being a woman; 2 –The pain of childbirth: from physiological to unnecessary interventions and; 3 –The desire to be respected as a person. The social representations of obstetric violence for the participants of this study are centered on the terms “delivery”, “pain” and “want”. Women understand that such violence is an action that disrespects women's autonomy and decision-making power over their bodies.
