Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present a description and analysis of instantiated patterns by constructions formed of circumstantial verb + locative (constructions [VLOC]) from a methodology that contemplates effective uses of Brazilian Portuguese. Assuming Usage-Centered Functional Linguistics assumptions, especially from the contributions of the so-called Grammar of Constructions, we found that the [VLOC] constructions are distributed in two sets: in one, verb and locative act at the lexical level, with full and objective meaning; in the other, with procedural arrangements, verb and locative evidence a strong integration of the subparts and form a new match of form and function, acting at the pragmatic-discursive level, with grammar value and with (inter)subjective meaning, sometimes as modalizer, sometimes as discursive marker.
