Abstract

The study aimed to understand the profile and experiences of scholarship students who participated in extension projects in the period 2019 and 2021 at the Department of Education – DEDC XII/UNEB, in order to identify the presence/absence of black students. The qualitative approach research followed a methodological path using the following research instruments: collecting data from projects at the Research and Extension Center (NUPE) of DEDC XII/UNEB; and a questionnaire with closed and open questions for 41 students

identified as scholarship holders, distributed across the four courses offered by the institution (Pedagogy, Nursing, Physical Education and Administration). The data shows that there were no significant changes in the profiles of students who participated in extension projects in the two cycles (2019 and 2021). It is clear, therefore, that the majority of extension students are black (self-declared black and brown), women, young, single, do not have children, have a religion, do not have any disability, graduates from public schools, coming from the countryside, children of working parents who live in low-income activities whose family income is up to 2 minimum wages, being the first, within a family history marked by poverty, Those who managed to get to the public university entered the institution through reserved places. This study concludes that the extension is a place for black students, however, within this category there is a disparity, with brown students being more numerous compared to black scholarship holders. These are even fewer in number than the self-declared white scholarship holders.
