Abstract

Previous studies have indicated that teacher burnout can be intensified by excessive enthusiasm for work. However, most investigative methods measure burnout based on reported subjective symptoms, with little evidence indicating the causes of the symptoms and the extent of the teacher's enthusiasm for work. The aim of this manuscript was to present the peculiarities of the relationship between teacher engagement in work and professional burnout. This academic essay was organized based on a narrative review of the literature, adaptively exploring the concepts and ideas from studies available in the literature. The results highlight that studies scaling the occurrence and severity of burnout in teachers mostly focus on identifying and quantifying the classic subjective symptoms of the phenomenon, without allowing for objective and definitive conclusions about the causes of this occurrence. Future studies should investigate, in a controlled manner, the triggering mechanisms of burnout to distinguish the extent of the triggers of the problem.
