Author Guidelines
INTERMATHS accepts original submissions in Portuguese and English. Accepted File Formats Authors must use the LaTeX template or Microsoft Word template to prepare their manuscript. Using the template file will substantially shorten the time to complete copy-editing and publication of accepted manuscripts. The total amount of data for all files must not exceed 2 MB. Our LaTeX & Microsoft Word templates are there to help you write your article. If this is a problem, please contact the Editorial Office intermaths@uesb.edu.br. Accepted file formats are:
- LaTeX: Manuscripts prepared in LaTeX must be collated into one ZIP folder (include all source files and images, so that the Editorial Office can recompile the submitted PDF) ; the TikZ package should not be used and the final text should be clean. When preparing manuscripts in LaTeX, please use the INTERMATHS LaTeX template files.
- Microsoft Word: Manuscripts prepared in Microsoft Word must be converted into a single file before submission. When preparing manuscripts in Microsoft Word, the INTERMATHS Microsoft Word template file must be used.
Please note: editable files are required for processing in production. If your manuscript contains any non-editable files (such as PDFs) you will be required to re-submit an editable file if your manuscript is accepted. Authors are required to register at the electronic submission system, and provide all the requested information. The submitting author must provide an ORCID ID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) at the time of submission by entering it in the user profile in the submission system. We strongly encourage coauthors to do the same. Within the user area, besides submitting their articles, authors will be able to follow the editorial process from submission to the eventual publication. Although there is a corresponding author, all other authors share responsibility for the content of submitted manuscripts. All published articles will be assigned to DOI provided by CrossRef.
The co-authors of a paper should be all those persons who have made significant scientific contributions to the work reported and who share responsibility and accountability for the results. An administrative relationship to the investigation does not of itself qualify a person for co-authorship (but occasionally it may be appropriate to acknowledge major administrative assistance). The author who submits a manuscript for publication accepts the responsibility of having included as co-authors all persons appropriate and none inappropriate. The submitting author should have sent each living co-author a draft copy of the manuscript and have obtained the co-author’s assent to co-authorship of it.
Presentation of the articles Articles may be accepted in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The main manuscript is expected not to exceed 20 pages, excluding references and should not contain any appendix. The use of Electronic Supplementary Material is encouraged.
Titles should be clear and concise; they must match between manuscript file and electronic submission.
Abstracts should not be more than 250 words long.
Keywords. All manuscript types must be accompanied by 3–5 keywords. Authors are encouraged to include keywords that do not appear in the title. Articles in English do not need title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese. Articles in Spanish need to present title, abstract and keywords in English.
Sections should be numbered with arabic numerals. Each page of the manuscript should be numbered. Please insert your graphics (schemes, figures, etc.) in the main text after the paragraph of its first citation. The equations should be provided in the text of the manuscript and should be referred as "equation (1)".
References
Citation and referencing must be written based on IEEE referencing style. Most of the references must be taken from reputable international journals and high quality conference proceedings. The main references must be published within the last five years. DOI hyperlink must be provided if available. All references should be from the most pertinent and up-to-date sources.
In the text, reference numbers must be enclosed in square brackets [ ] and placed before punctuation; for example, [1], [1, 3] or [1, 2, 3]. For quotes embedded in the paginated text, use parentheses and square brackets to indicate the reference number and page numbers; for example, [3, p. 23]. or [5, pp. 102-105]. The general format preferred is indicated below: References

Excessive and inappropriate self-citation or coordinated efforts among several authors to collectively self-cite is strongly discouraged.
The Appendices can be used to describe any additional material. You should use a main heading in the style ‘Appendix A: Conformable Laplace Transform’. Refer to appendices B, C etc. when there is more than one appendix. Figures, tables and equations in the appendix should be numbered in the style Figure A1, A2, Table A1, A2, Equation A1, A2 etc.
Supplementary material The supplementary material can be any length (and in some cases may be unnecessary). The supplementary material may contain additional figures and tables, details about data, mathematical derivations, further explanations, or additional simulations or other supporting studies. The supplementary material should be placed in a separate document from the main manuscript.
Acknowledgements You may acknowledge individuals or organisations that provided advice, support (non-financial). Formal financial support and funding should be listed in the Financial Support section (see below).
Financial Support Please provide details of the sources of financial support for all authors, including grant numbers. For example, "This work was supported by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado da Bahia (grant number XXXXXXX)". Multiple grant numbers should be separated by a comma and space, and where research was funded by more than one agency the different agencies should be separated by a semi-colon, with 'and' before the final funder. Grants held by different authors should be identified as belonging to individual authors by the authors' initials. For example, "This work was supported by the Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada (A.B., grant numbers XXXX, YYYY), (C.D., grant number ZZZZ); the Natural Environment Research Council (E.F., grant number FFFF); and the Centro Integrado de Manufatura e Tecnologia (A.B., grant number GGGG), (E.F., grant number HHHH)". Where no specific funding has been provided for research, please provide the following statement: "This research received no specific grant from any funding agency, commercial or not-for-profit sectors."
Terms of submission Manuscripts must be submitted on the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere and are only being considered by this journal.
The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that the article’s publication has been approved by all the other coauthors. It is also the submitting author’s responsibility to ensure that the article has all necessary institutional approvals. Further correspondence and proofs will be sent to the author(s) before publication, unless otherwise indicated. It is a condition of submission that the authors permit editing of the manuscript for readability. All inquiries concerning the publication of accepted manuscripts should be addressed to intermaths@uesb.edu.br.
Copyright and permissions
By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the copyright for their article is transferred to INTERMATHS Journal if and when the article is accepted for publication. Accepted articles become the property of the intermaths Journal.
Articles are licensed under an open access Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, meaning that anyone may download and read the paper for free. In addition, the article may be reused and quoted provided that the original published version is cited. These conditions allow for maximum use and exposure of the work, while ensuring that the authors receive proper credit.
In exceptional circumstances articles may be licensed differently. If you have specific condition (such as one linked to funding) that does not allow this license, please mention this to the editorial office of the journal at submission. Exceptions will be granted at the discretion of the publisher.
Further considerations
- manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
- all references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
- whenever possible, include the DOI of the cited documents
- that the work described has not been published previously
- that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere
- data and methods used in the research need to be presented in sufficient detail in the paper, so that other researchers can replicate the work
- that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the authorities responsible where the work was carried out.
The editor evaluates the recommendation and notifies the author of the manuscript status. The manuscript may be:
- Accepted for publication as is
- Accepted for publication with minor changes, with no re-review necessary
- Accepted for publication after substantial revision and additional review
- Rejected.
Double Blind Peer Review
This journal is committed to peer-review integrity and upholding the highest standards of review. Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by the editor, it will then be double-blind review, which means the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa. advantages of this model are listed below.
- Author anonymity limits reviewer bias, for example based on an author's gender, country of origin, academic status or previous publication history.
- Articles written by prestigious or renowned authors are considered on the basis of the content of their papers, rather than their reputation.
Please therefore ensure that the following items are present in your submission and are provided as separate files:
- remove any identifying information, such as authors' names or affiliations, from your manuscript before submission
- use the third person to refer to work the authors have previously published. For example, write “Mettam and Adams [4] have demonstrated” rather than “we/the authors have previously demonstrated in [4]”
- make sure that figures and tables do not contain any reference to author affiliations
- remove references to funding sources
- do not include acknowledgments
- exclude acknowledgements and any references to funding sources
- choose file names with care, and ensure that the file’s “properties” are also anonymised.
The Peer Review Process The journal employs a three-stage review process – editorial office, external review and editors’ decision. The first stage of the review process takes place in the editorial office. On submission, a manuscript is reviewed to ensure that it meets the minimum requirements of the journal before it is sent to external reviewers. At this stage, the manuscript is reviewed for the following:
- Possible plagiarism: The manuscript is evaluated to compare the level of similarity with other published works. Manuscripts that have high level of similarity with other works (including the author(s) previous works) are rejected at this stage. Authors are provided with the similarity report together with the decision to reject the manuscript.
- Scope: After a manuscript has undergone similarity check and the level of similarity is judged to be appropriate, the content of the manuscript is checked to ensure that it fits within the scope of the journal selected by the author(s).
- The manuscript is checked for the structure, organization, correctness and clarity of the language as it adheres to the journal's Instructions for Authors. The editorial office usually makes correction to minor grammatical errors in such a manner that it does not alter the manuscript. However, in situations where language is substantially difficult to comprehend, the manuscript is returned to the corresponding author to improve clarity of the language. Manuscripts that fails in this first stage of the review process are returned to the author(s) for modification and resubmission.
This first stage of the review is very important as it enables the author(s) to improve the manuscript at an early stage.
Changes to authorship Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript and provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be made only before the manuscript has been accepted and only if approved by the journal Editor. Appeals Authors may appeal if they feel that the decision to reject was based on:
i) a major misunderstanding over a technical aspect of the manuscript, or
ii) a failure understand the scientific advance shown by the manuscript. Appeals requesting a second opinion without sufficient justification will not be considered. To lodge an appeal, please contact the journal by email.
Appeals will only be considered from the original submitting author.
Important note: the journal may use software to screen for plagiarism.
Publication Ethics
The Journal adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on research and publications ethics. We take issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism, or other breaches of best practice in publication very seriously. Text taken directly or closely paraphrased from earlier published work that has not been acknowledged or referenced will be considered plagiarism. Submitted manuscripts in which such text is identified will be withdrawn from the editorial process. If a concern is raised about possible plagiarism in an article submitted to or published in the journal, this will be investigated fully and dealt with in accordance with the COPE guidelines.
