Discretization of Lake Perucaba in Modeling Pollutant Dispersion

Abstract

This study investigates pollution in Lake Perucaba, in Arapiraca, Alagoas, proposing computational tools for lake discretization and solving the pollutant transport equation using the Finite Volume Method. The results reveal higher concentrations near pollution sources, with the discretization grid significantly affecting the outcomes. A regular grid is more suitable for the method. The study is motivated by the expectation of providing insights to assist and guide lake preservation policies in a well-founded manner.
