CHALLENGES OF RURAL EDUCATION IN TIMES OF NEOLIBERALISM, ADJUSTEMENT POLICIES AND POVERTY

Abstract

In this article we analyze the impact of some effects of neoliberal policies in education, particularly in rural education. The beginning of the 21st century was marked by the presence of governments in Latin America whose general orientations can be imprecisely designated as progressives, as they sought to expand the rights of citizens, improve income distribution, universalize access to services and increase the amount of GDP dedicated to education. Since the end of 2010, the governments of the region started to turn to the right, went to a conservative restoration process, either through electoral channels or through violent or fraudulent ways. In this context, Argentina, earlier than almost all of the rest of the countries, was exposed to the disarticulation and defund of education, within a context of a diluted family income, pauperization and, recently, a pandemic, which deeply impacts on the inclusion of vast sectors of the population.
