Abstract

This article investigates the innovative dramaturgical form of Tennessee Williams late plays, where he uses the concept of Pop Art for the narrative construction of the one-act plays Aimez-vous Ionesco? and The Traveling Companion. It identifies the high and low cultures, and everyday elements to compose form and content, the weaving of the characters, and the camp aesthetics. It is revealed a playwright underexplored in Brazil for the use of these poetics, and the social critical analysis Pop Art confers to the texts. Regarding to this, there is an evident shift in the hegemonic reading of the dramatist's works, considered exclusively as psychological realism and autobiography.
