On literature and exile or a visit to a displaced poet

Abstract

The paper aims to reflect at the relation between literature and exile by reading the text “Literature and displacement”, written by José Lins do Rego in 1943 for A Manhã. Its polemic dialogue with Guillermo de Torre’s “Emigración intelectual, drama del presente” (1940) allows us to reexamine the “exile’s antinomies”, according to Said’s terms (2003), and the possibilities of a critical consideration of the literature produced by exiled artists.
