Demarcate, inspect and educate: biopolitics in Foucault and the propaganda plan against illiteracy

The main objective of this article is to discuss how the Propaganda Plan Against Illiteracy in Parelhas managed to establish the existence of a Biopolitics, that is, how the state apparatus, based on its inspections, norms and rules, ended up being present in Parelhas through an educational plan whose main objective was not only to rid the population of illiteracy, but also to transform the students who were going to be literate into republican citizens. With this in mind, we decided to make a selection of three documents that discuss how some activities related to September 7 and November 15 took place, as well as the respective photographs that show how the event took place. Based on the analysis carried out, the Republic's intention became clear: in addition to proposing literacy models, it also implemented means of controlling students in order to train them as citizens and upholders of the law.
