To present in a commented way some conceptions of the university concept that has permeated Brazilian social thought is the objective of this article. The exposition of the conceptions with which we developed is structured in three distinct moments of the text: Initially we will present the university conceptions that we had since the decree of the first Brazilian university until the end of the Military Dictatorship. Then we will present the concept of university that we had after the end of autocracy, passing through the decade of neoliberalism. Finally, we will briefly point out the conjuncture that we have of the current Brazilian university that irremediably leads us to the conclusions that we deserve as Brazilians and socially involved population.
