This text is an instrument by which we address the importance of classical knowledge in the constitution of teacher education. To achieve this goal, we start from the dynamics between appropriation and objectification from the contributions of Lukacsian ontology. We approach Balzac's tale “The Skin of Onager” as a resource to demonstrate the thesis that the appropriation of classical knowledge in an ontological critical orientation is indispensable for a broadening and deepening of the students' conception of the world and society and not its demotion. This requires a theoretical and practical effort. Theoretical in the sense of understanding the formative aspects of human beings along the dynamics of social reproduction and also with regard to the identification of the most developed forms of knowledge. At the same time and inseparably is the practical challenge in implementing educational actions that enable the elevation of the intellectual level of students.
