Introduction: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the use of the best available evidence for clinical decision-making. This requires minimal knowledge and skills. Objective: To evaluate the knowledge and skills of physical therapy students for evidence-based practice. Materials and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative research was conducted with 92 physiotherapy students from a private university in the interior of Bahia. These students were assessed through the Modified Fresno Test, consisting of 13 questions on knowledge and skills for EBP. Results: The sample of this research consisted of 92 students, with an average age of 21.86 years (± 3.011), being 6 (6.52%) male and the remaining female (N = 86; 48%). , in the Modified Fresno Test evaluation, the average score was 6 points, which demonstrates that the students had little knowledge about the steps of the EBP. Conclusion: The low scores found in this research show that there is a teaching deficit about EBP in the studied population, which represents a barrier to the implementation of this practice by future professionals.
